Why are the Gospels so Different?
About 2,000 years ago, a Jewish teacher walked the hills around Nazareth, traversed the Land of Israel, and ended up in a deadly conflict with the political and religious leaders of Jerusalem.
Four main accounts of his story have been passed down to us, known as the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. But why are they all different? Why do three of them tell similar stories but also include apparent contradictions? How did they come to be written?
Join us for this free Hot Topics Conference! We'll discuss questions including:
- Why are there 4 different gospels?
- What is the “synoptic problem,” and why is it important?
- Why is John’s gospel so different from all the others, and is it anti-Jewish?
- What about non-canonical “gospels” outside the Christian tradition?
